 13th September  Castleford Town 4 - 2 South Milford

Castleford Town started the new season at home to South Milford.
Town got off to a flier with some swift passing which ended with Declan Walker having a shot which struck the crossbar. Another move which was cleared to Reece Carr who shot just wide. South Milford put Town under pressure with Captain Joel Hobson and Conor Hutchinson standing strong in the middle at the back. Full backs Reece Carr and Joe Sayer were solid. Luke Day saved well when left 1 on 1.
Town took a deserved lead when Joe Sayer held the ball on the left well and fed Declan Walker who moved the ball well before shooting into the corner of the net to make it 1-0. South Milford pulled 1 back to level it after some sloppy defence. James Cheung had a shot which was saved well. Nathan Morrisroe had a few great runs on the right. Ross Williams and Louis Watton played some nice stuff up front.
But it was Hayden O’Neill on the left who passed 2 defenders to get to the by-line only to be brought down for a penalty. Declan took it and the keeper saved well but Declan Walker followed up to slot the rebound home to make it 2-1 at half time.

In the 2nd half it was end to end stuff and it saw South Milford equalize again at 2-2. But it wasn’t long before Town were back in front again nice passing from Ross Williams to Nathan Morrisroe who found man of the match Declan Walker on the edge of the box who got is well deserved hat-trick with a sweet shot. Connor Hughes came on for Ross Williams up front. Louis Watton had a shot which was saved well. Hayden O’Neill and Connor Hughes passed well before Connor Hughes got in a shot. Luke Day saved well diving to his right to keep the lead. James Carolan came on for Joe Sayer. It was nail biting stuff and both sides going close. Then Town got a corner which Connor Hughes took on the left and Joel Hobson who’d pushed forward got on the end of it to head home to make it 4-2. Louis Watton put Hayden O’Neill in on the left who ran through on goal who shot just wide. Declan Walker broke on the left cut in and shot just over the bar. Joel Hobson at the back headed a shot onto the bar to keep Towns lead until the final whistle. Michael Crossley came on late to replace Reece Carr.

27th Sept Castleford Town 6 - 2 Wheldrake

Town were at home this week against Wheldrake.
It was a fast and furious start with Town looking good going forward and Declan Walker had a shot just over early on. Then it was Wheldrake’s turn to put Town’s defence under pressure. Reece Carr at right back centre halves of Joel Hobson and Thomas Whitton with Joe Sayer at left back working well together to keep Wheldrake out. Luke Day in goals was impressive when called upon to calm things down by collecting the ball well. Then Town took the lead Declan passed to Nathan Morrisroe who fed Connor Hughes who finished well.
I midfield James Cheung and Walker were excellent with Wingers Morrisroe and Hayden O’Neill running tirelessly.
Louis Watten was a great strike partner for Hughes. Both Hayden and Morrisroe had shots. Towns 2nd goal was from a Louis Watton’s corner that he miss hit and from the rebound he whipped in a great cross that was headed back across goal by Walker and Hughes finished well to bag his 2nd. It was all Town and they were unlucky not to score more. Then Town let Wheldrake back into the game with 2 quick goals being conceded after some sloppy defence leaving Day with no chance on either goal. 2-2 was the half time score.


In the 2nd half Town were back in front after 2 quick goals by Walker both taken well running in on goal the 2nd being a great chip. Town dominated the early stages of the half and Wheldrake’s keeper was on form denying Town more goals. Then the ball broke out of the area for Hobson who struck the ball well and it
was deflected in off a defender but Hobson claimed the goal his 2nd of the season. Whitton did well at the back clearing the ball. Day made a fantastic save when diving full stretch and holding the ball to deny Wheldrake any chance of coming back. Hayden O’Neill and Man of the match Nathan Morrisroe worked so hard. Walker got his 2nd hat-trick of the season with a sweetly taken goal after some nice footwork to pass defender after defender before shooting well. Subs: Michael Crossley for Joe Sayer, James Carolan for Hayden O’Neill and Ben Humes for Louis Watton all did
well after coming on.

04th Oct Barlby Raiders 0 - 2 Castleford Town

Today we were away at a wind swept Barlby.
In our first away game of the season Town wanted to keep up an unbeaten start.
Town with the wind started well with a front 2 of Louis Watton and Connor Hughes. Hayden O’Neill and Nathan Morrisroe swapped wings for today’s game and it proved to be a good move with both looking impressive. In the middle it was Declan Walker and James Cheung who both worked tirelessly. Walker was unlucky with an early shot going just over the bar. Then after some great build up play by Hayden who passed to Watton who found Hughes who finished well. Town dominated most of the 1st half but Luke Day saved twice pushing a shot onto the bar and then saving from close range from the rebound. Morrisroe passed to Walker who shot just wide. Both Hughes and Watton put in some fantastic corners. Morrisroe had a shot just wide. Watton also was just off target after build up play from Walker and Morrisroe. Town got a corner just before the break which Watton whipped in which was cleared back to him and he calmly shot back and the ball flew into the far top corner for his first goal of the season.
In the 2nd half Town had to contend with the wind and it was swirling more and made it difficult at times.
The back 4 of Reece Carr, Joel Hobson (cpt), Thomas Whitton and Joe Sayer all impressed and were solid.
Hughes had several chances running through on goal only for the keeper twice the crossbar and a shot just wide. Conor Hutchinson came on for Sayer on the left and did very well. Ross Williams came on for Watton who had a few chances and made several great runs. Ellis Brightmore pulled a muscle warming up and didn’t play. Watton came back on for Hughes. Morrisroe was unlucky when his shot came back off the bar. It was strong defending for the last 5 minutes that kept a clean sheet. Reece Carr got a deserved Man of the Match.

11th Oct Castleford Town 2  -  2 Brayton

Town were at home to Brayton this week, both teams unbeaten so far.
Cas started strongly and had lots of possession early on. Then it was Brayton who pushed forward and Luke Day in goals saved well twice. It was Brayton who took the lead after some sloppy play at the back. Louis Watton teamed up front with Hughes well. It was end to end football and after some great build up play from Man of the match Hayden O’Neill who fed Connor Hughes who found Nathan Morrisroe who shot into the top corner. A centre midfield of Conor Hutchinson and James Cheung kept things tight. A back 4 of Reece Carr, Thomas Whitton, (Captain) Joel Hobson and Ellis Brightmore worked very well at times. Town upped the pressure and were unlucky not to score again when Morrisroe hit the post.
In the 2nd half Brayton came out fast and pushed Town back. Then after some nice play from Substitute Joe Sayer who passed to O’Neill who run down the line and crossed to Hughes whose touch let him down. Then Day in goals took his eye of the ball and miss handled a catch to let a Brayton striker fire home from a tight angle. Ross Williams came on for Cheung and had a great shot which he caught so sweetly but the keeper saved well. James Carolan came on for Carr at right back and after an early mistake played some really nice football.
Joel Hobson was strong at the back clearing the ball well and putting Town back on the front foot. Hughes dropped into midfield and did very well. It was from a Hughes corner that Town equalised it was whipped in to Watton whose shot deflected off a defender then deflected off Joel Hobson and into the net. It was well deserved equaliser and it was Town who finished the stronger and nearly snatched all 3 points. This result should take Town to the top of the table and still undefeated from 4 games. Next week it’s the cup with Selby Town top from the Red league and Cas Town top from the blue league meeting in the 2nd round after both teams getting byes in the 1st round.

15th Nov Castleford Town 2  -  3 Elvington

Town started a sluggish and Elvington pushed forward, but the back 4 of Captain Joel Hobson, Thomas Whitton, Reece Carr and Brandan Hopper kept it tight. Luke Day made several saves to keep the scores level but was unlucky with Elvington’s opener. Then it was Town who pushed it forward with James Cheung and Conor Hutchinson in the midfield working tirelessly. Hayden O’Neill and Nathan Morrisroe out on the wings went past Elvington defenders time after time. The front 2 of Ross Williams and Louis Watton were outstanding. It was Morrisroe who struck for Towns equaliser and it was somehow 1-1 at half time even though Town had all the possession and were so unlucky not to lead at the break.
In the 2nd half Town pushed forward like in the 1st and Louis Watton struck to give them the lead they deserved.
Town struggled to cope with a muddy area and conceded 2 2nd half goals to end up losing a game that they dominated at times.
Connor Hughes and Luke Higgs came off the bench and did well. Man of the match was Brandan Hopper making his home debut at left back.

22nd Nov Monk Fryston 1  -  2 Castleford Town

Town were away at a very windy Monk Fryston on Saturday.
Town kept up their good form from last week and had all the play in the Monk Frystons half. Louis Watton and Ross Williams are performing very well together in attack. Debutant Luke Higgs was on the right wing in place of the injured Hayden O’Neill and he impressed. James Cheung and Man of the Match Connor Hutchinson were outstanding in the centre of midfield. Nathan Morrisroe was on his unfavoured side the left of midfield but was excellent and on another day could have scored several goals. Joe Sayer playing at right back shone and impressed. Brandan Hopper had another great game at left back with Captain Joel Hobson and Thomas Whitton were solid at the heart of the defence. Luke Day was not called upon much today but pulled off a great save when called upon to do so. The first half ended 0-0.
In the 2nd half Town continued to press forward but it was Monk Fryston who took the lead from a corner. Town pressed on and James Cheung struck to level it with a well taken shot. The Monk Fryston keeper made several great saves to deny Town a winner. Connor Hughes came on for Luke Higgs but got hit full in the face and had to be taken off after 5minutes.
Luke Day made a great save to keep Town in the game after a break away.
Then Town were pressing and the ball broke to Ross Williams who placed his shot past the keeper and into the far corner for Town to snatch a deserved winner.

29th Nov Castleford Town  7  -  3 Selby Olympia

Town were straight onto the attack and dominated the game for large periods. Town pressed forward and some great play from James Cheung who found Nathan Morrisroe who finished well. It was then left back Brandan Hopper who broke forward and found Morrisroe with a nice ball who again finished with a nice shot. It was then Morrisroe who turned provider to find Connor Hughes who replaced Luke Higgs after 3 minutes to score Towns 3rd. It was Hughes who made it 4 – 0 after a cleared corner came back out to him and he placed his shot with great accuracy. Towns back 4 were on top form again with Joe Sayer on the right Cpt Joel Hobson and Thomas Whitton in centre and Hopper on the left. Luke Day was rarely tested in the first half but handled everything he had to well. At times Town passed the ball so well it was hard for Olympia to get the ball and were opened up on several occasions.
In the 2nd half Town were caught cold and 2 slip ups helped Olympia back into the game at 4-2. Ross Williams and Louis Watton played some great stuff up front again and it was Watton who fed the ball to Morrisroe for him to bag his Hat-trick. Town conceded again to make it 5-3. James Cheung and Conor Hutchinson were again outstanding in the midfield. Town then put the game to bed with Man of the Match Morrisroe scoring his fourth. James Carolan came on for Watton and impressed. Hughes rounded off a great game with Towns 7th and his Hat-trick with a sweet shot.

06th Dec Snaith VS Castleford Town

17th Jan South Milford VS Castleford Town

Town were back in action after 7 weeks without a game because of Christmas and the weather.

Town started very brightly playing against the wind and for 10 minutes dominated the game but couldn’t finish their chances with both Connor Hughes and Louis Watton linking up well. Man of the James Cheung was outstanding in the middle of the park alongside Conor Hutchinson who was solid as usual. Nathan Morrisroe and Hayden O’Neill found it difficult on a very narrow pitch but both stuck at it in a very tight midfield. Joel Hobson was solid alongside Thomas Whitton who could’ve scored a hat-trick today with better finishing. Joe Sayer and Brandan Hopper ran tirelessly at full back. Luke Day was back in form today and saved well on several occasions and was close to the star player today.
It was South Milford who took the lead against the run of play and then doubled it soon after but Town heads didn’t drop and James Cheung pulled Town back into the game with a sweetly taken shot. Town were pegged back in their own half for long spells and conceded 3 goals after mix ups at the back. Ross Williams came on for Watton up front and scored within minutes by calmly slotting the ball past the keeper.
In the second half Town were stung in the first minute and conceded a killer goal. From then on Town took control again and missed several chances. Then James Cheung got his 2nd with another sweet finish. Luke Higgs came on for Hutchinson in the middle. Watton came back on for Morrisroe and new player Jonny Haines made his Town debut replacing Sayer as they pushed more players forward. Town were unfortunate to lose but suffered because of not taking their chances.

10th Jan  Ulleskelf VS Castleford Town 

Town were away to Ulleskelf on a cold frosty morning.
It was Town who pressed from the off today, and after a few shots it was striker Louis Watton who got town off to a flier with a sweet shot. Minutes later he had to be replaced after taking a knock to his foot. Connor Hughes replaced him and lined up alongside Ross Williams up front. It was Hughes who got the 2nd and Williams who slotted home the 3rd. Man of the match Luke Higgs was outstanding on the right wing with Nathan Morrisroe on the left wing with Hayden O’Neill alongside James Cheung who scored Towns 4th. Luke Day was rarely tested. Brandan Hopper at left back Joe Sayer showed some class at right back with Thomas Whitton and Joel Hobson solid at the back.
In the 2nd half Ulleskelf came out and attacked Town and Day was called upon to save early on. But it was Town who increased their lead from an home goal. Then Ulleskelf pulled 1 back after Hobson failed to clear. Conor Hutchinson came on for Hopper who had a muscle strain. Then another home goal has a defender cleared under pressure and hit his own keeper and the ball bounced over the line. Whitton failed to
clear and lost out letting Ulleskelf score again. Jonny Haines came on for the injured Morrisroe and showed some nice touches. It was Hughes who got his 2nd and Town’s 7th to make it a comfortable win.
